Former creative director at The Chase and now a founding partner at Glorious Creative, Tom’s named cropped up again and again when we asked for suggestions on speakers. His mantle piece is flooded with glass/silverware and, starting his career as a signwriter on the old YTS scheme, understands the need to balance creativity with craft.

Don’t miss this opportunity to talk shop with one of the region’s most well-respected young creatives. We’ll be looking at design as problem solving, wondering why designers can’t set type any more and explaining why passion in the most important ingredient in the creativity soup.

    A bit about Glorious Creative:

Graphics are the reason we get up in the morning.

In marketing jargon, it’s all about creating ‘brand equity’. We prefer a more straight- talking northern patois. It’s about building the bottom line; it’s not about vain aesthetics.

We’re identity specialists who are renowned for creative thinking and craft skills and we enjoy the challenge of problem-solving.

What’s more, we’re really rather good at it, which is why we were named in the top five of the North of England Design Consultancy of the Year awards 2007.

Our design directors Mark Ross and Tom Shaughnessy have picked up more than 50 national and international awards, including:

    D&AD
    Design Week
    Chicago Athenaeum
    New York Type Directors Club
    Donside Awards
    Roses Design Awards
    National Business Calendar
    New York Festivals
    National Graphics
    European Advertising & Design
    McNaughton Review
    Cream Awards

North of England Design Consultancy of
    the Year 2007.
    1st – Strategic Thinking
    3rd – Client Satisfaction
    4th – Overall

An excellent night chatting with a master craftsman of the design world. Tom’s down-to-earth, unpretentious approach couldn’t hide the burning passion he has for design, creativity and especially type.

We discussed a wide range of topics including the importance of passion in our industry; design as problem solving and the role of ‘the suit’, as well as dedicating an entire spot to the dying art of typography.
