Well, my desk. As I see way more of it than my wife, my home…or anything else for that matter, I like to fill it (to the brim) with everything that inspires me. Its full of characters, vinyl monsters, toy planes, flyers, robots and all other manner of ridiculous childish rubbish…but it makes me smile and I bloomin love it. I love to surround myself with visual stimulus, so the busier the better, if there is even a millimetre of desk space, I have to fill it Oh yeah and a handful of good visually rich books too.

Coffee, Music, and a nice beefy brief to read, other than that, everything has to be in its place. My resource material will be in the libray, my pens in the pen draw marked “Pens”, my coat on the coat hanger… i think you get the idea. A certain degree of OCD is definitely apparent. When working i like to detract my self from the often busy environment of the office, my desk is my personal space were i can create and develop what ever im doing, music for me is a good way to focus and helps me stay in my bubble. Saying that at the end of a project my desk often looks like tip and the whole process starts agian.

Your desk – the place where you work – is a highly personal space – the stage on which the triumphs and traumas of your creative endeavours are played out on a daily basis. Other than perhaps your bed, you spend more time at your desk than anywhere else. Work it out – 7,8,9 hours a day x 5/6 days a week x 52 weeks a year … gets a bit scary.

Given the integral role that the desk plays in your work, we’d like to see it! Via this blog and a flickr group we’re compiling a collection of shots of creatives’ desks – partly to stimulate thought regarding what your desk says about the way you work and the person you are, but mainly for a unashamedly voyeuristic nosey.

If the response is good, we’ll look towards producing a book/pamplet to celebrate this overlooked backroom-boy of the creative world. We’ve posted a few shots already to get the ball rolling – select the “deskribe” category from the right hand side bar… psychoanalytic comments welcome…
