A Lovely and simple idea for a garden designers business card.

Taking a lead from Cooper Black (below) here’s my effort for an edgy little typeface with a name fit for the circus. RNS Bobo Dylan.

Two students, one shop front and a week crammed full of collaborations.
Trawling the blogs this week I happened across these two fellas sitting in a rather unassuming shop window in Lincoln. Tom and Shaun spent all last week, literally, showing their wares to the general public—and through their blog, the design community. The boys dreamt up the idea in their third year of study at the Lincoln School of Art and Design, and what a good idea it is too.
Complete with wooly hats, a pair of macbooks, pens, craft knives and a forest full of coloured paper, Tom and Shaun set about putting their mark on the Lincoln Highstreet, blogging all the while. The lads sent a call out for ideas and suggestions for the week which ranged from ‘turn your window into a shop’s sale window’ from the Chase’s own Craig Oldham, to ‘change your hats for once and pull your trousers up’ from a one Mr Richard Marsdon.

Loving the use of the window shutters on this music store.
I’m sure their sales were amplified from this idea, ho ho ho.

Shepard Fairey, creator of the ‘OBEY Giant’ brand is one of today’s most influential street artists. His work is known for its propagandistic treatment of bold colours, simplistic graphical style and political messages.
I was lucky enough to be in Los Angeles in the weeks before last years US Presidential Election and one particular piece of Shepard’s work, the Barrack Obama ‘HOPE’ poster, was present on just about every street you walked down. As an artist wanting to show his support for change, with no connection to Obama, the iconic poster was adopted firstly by the public and later, because of its great success, by the Obama campaign. As Shepard explains in a recent televised interview with Charlie Rose, this is ‘an exciting example of the principle of change happening from the bottom up.’ Click here to see the interview.
Fairey was also recently commissioned by Penguin Books to design covers of two George Orwell classics, ‘1984′ and ‘Animal Farm’.

Ffffound this and thought it would be cool to get a string going. Fonts are full of character as well as characters—anyone up for Art Directing their favourite font?
Something similar here: http://www.grouphub.org/2008/10/16/font-characters/
When I found out that these shots were not actually photographs of models, I was quite amazed.

A lovely link between idea killers and films.

Did anyone see the two-part documentary ‘Swarms: Natures Incredible Invasions’ that was on BBC one earlier this month? I finally got round to watching it the other day and was fascinated by the amazing aerial displays that the thousands of starlings (known as a ‘murmuration’) make above the city of Rome each autumn and winter.
Photographer Richard Barnes has captured the patterns that the birds create. Click here to take a look at his collection entitled ‘Murmur’.
However, its not all beautiful for the locals who see the birds as a real nuisance. Next time a bird drops one on your windscreen, spare a thought for the people of Rome. Click here
